Our

Programs

Spring Programming

Outreach Productions is excited to introduce our latest initiative, All Aboard, an interactive and engaging lesson that blends arts and crafts with history, focusing on the vibrant heritage of Austin Black Freedom Communities. During these sessions, students dive into the rich historical narratives while expressing themselves through various art forms like music, visual art, dance, and theater. It's a dynamic way to learn and create!

Kids School Farm

Outreach Productions has partnered with The Alexander Farm, a cherished Black-owned farm with deep roots dating back to the late 19th century. Students from Austin ISD and the Texas Empowerment Academy embark on field trips to this historic farm, immersing themselves in its rich legacy. Following an exploration of the farm's history, students engage in hands-on art projects, such as crafting quilts, to celebrate their experience. Additionally, they discover the joys of farm-fresh food through interactive cooking sessions led by a chef. From garden to table, it's a holistic journey of learning and nourishment!

STORY-TIMES

All great summer programs need captivating stories to keep kids engaged. View brief descriptions of this year's summer selections.

Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain

A cumulative rhyme relating how Ki-pat brought rain to the drought-stricken Kapiti Plain. Verna Aardema has brought the original story closer to the English nursery rhyme by putting in a cumulative refrain and giving the tale the rhythm of “The House That Jack Built.”

A Story a Story by Gail E. Haley

A Story, a Story is a children's picture book written and illustrated by Gail E. Haley that retells the African tale of how the trickster Anansi obtained stories from the Sky God to give to the children of the earth. The book was produced after Gail E. Haley spent a year in the Caribbean researching the African roots of many Caribbean tales.

ARTS & CRAFTS

Each story time and puppet show have a craft component. Our energetic crafts instructors, Tianna Mitchell and Odera Anyasinti explain how to make each craft in a way that is simple and easy to follow. To see some of the crafts visit our Facebook page.

PUPPET THEATER

In the Puppet Theater we will present two of our favorite Folktales
